Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work 3x12 hour rotating shifts (7p-7:30a / 7a-7:30p), including holiday rotation
- Weekend requirement every other weekend (EOW)
- Patient ratios: 1:4-5
- Float within clinical scope to meet unit needs
- Unit: 13-bed inpatient adult acute medical-surgical unit, open 24/7
- Unit serves medical and surgical patients from general or family medicine service lines, including new admissions from ED, post recovery, or other inpatient units
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
Required Licenses and Certifications
- South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC accepted)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required for adult critical care units, ER, ICU, cath lab (RNs), labor & delivery, interventional radiology (RNs), PACU, PCU, pre-op, observation unit
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS for pediatric units, TNCC for trauma units, etc.)—verify with unit-specific job description
Schedule and Work Conditions
- Rotating shifts with holiday and weekend rotations
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval, depending on unit needs
- Local radius: 60 miles

- Scrub color: Solid royal blue or white tops with royal blue bottoms for RNs
Important Notes
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams
- Fit testing with specific N95 masks required annually
- COVID-19 vaccinations are highly preferred but not required; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Flu vaccination required during flu season (August-April) with no declinations accepted
- Extensive background checks and verifications required, including education, licensure, and employment history
- Facility-specific orientation modules and documentation must be completed prior to start
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties/units (not applicable for this med-surg RN role unless specified)
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Proof of 2 clinical references
- Completed employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start
- Immunizations or titers for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, tetanus/diphtheria/Tdap
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, and employment verification for last 3 clinical employers
