Registered Nurse - Intermediate Medical Care (IMC)

Location: Portland, Maine
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Position: Registered Nurse in General Intermediate Level of Care (IMC)
• Shifts: Day (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) and Night (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
• Weekend Hours: As needed (up to 36 hours)
• Call Requirements: None
• Float Requirements: Will float to appropriate similar units at IMC level or lower as needed

Unit Information

• Unit Size: 12 IMC beds (36 beds total on the floor)
• Patient Ratios:

  • IMC patients: 1:3
  • Med-surg side (when floating): 1:4-5 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
• Equipment Used: Telemetry, BiPAP, Hi-Flow O2, Insulin drips for DKA protocol
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Epic

Patient Population

• Respiratory conditions
• Medical telemetry patients
• Some surgical patients
• Sepsis
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Altered Mental Status
• Failure to Thrive
• Respiratory Failure
• Various acute on chronic medical conditions

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maine
• Minimum 2 years of Intermediate Care experience, including experience within the last year
• Med Surg experience
• Completion of one or more travel assignments
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior IMC travel experience preferred
