Registered Nurse - ICU
Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Schedule: 36 hours on / 36 hours off
- Weekend shifts: 4 per schedule period
- No on-call required
- Floating to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with some possible Medical-Surgical (MS) shifts as needed
- Must live at least 100 miles from the facility
- General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs) with 16 hours of non-billable orientation
- Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
- Additional shifts beyond commitment may be offered as overtime and adjusted based on census without penalty
- Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
- Other certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Competency exam required
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification required
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check if licensed or working in Tennessee
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
- Respiratory fit testing completed onsite (previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted)
- Immunizations/vaccinations or documented immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- TB screening (2 PPDs within last 12 months or equivalent)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
- Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
Additional Notes
- Candidate must comply with facility-specific dress code, uniform guidelines, and safety policies
- Photo for badge must meet specific standards and be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
- Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
- Candidate must review and comply with policies on contaminated sharps, body fluid exposure, smoking/tobacco use, and influenza
- References: 2 preferred, 3 ideal
