Description

Registered Nurse - ICU

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: ICU
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet unit needs
  • Block scheduling: Open to accommodating
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule)
  • Pending license: Not accepted
  • Return staff policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • Contract limit: Maximum 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning
  • Guaranteed hours: Call-off policy allows 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; after that, contracted hours are guaranteed
  • First-time travelers: Preferred no, but up to manager discretion depending on experience

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Required Competencies

  • Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam annually (via Relias)
  • Must pass Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with an 80% or higher within 3 attempts

Licensure

  • License must be current and not expiring the month of start (must be renewed prior to start if expiring)

Background and Health Requirements

  • Background check required within 6 months of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable)
  • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by physician, NP, or PA-C
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations/vaccines required or proof of immunity:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccine required year-round or signed flu acknowledgment form if off-season; medical or religious exemptions require facility approval
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required but accepted if available

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass EKG exam with no exceptions
  • Photo for badge: professional passport-style photo required (no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless for religious reasons)
  • Must complete facility-specific forms and agreements prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, emergency contact, job description acknowledgment)
  • Must comply with facility policies including professional appearance and computer use
  • Must complete required orientation and training modules before start

Scheduling and Work Environment

  • Short-term acute care facility
  • Level III Trauma Center / Teaching Hospital
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub colors: Royal blue and white

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required
  • Floating between like units within the facility is expected
  • Candidates must be willing to work every other weekend
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted for this travel position
