Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Long Term Care
Location: Seward, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (traveler's choice between 13 or 26 weeks)
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: 4x12 hour shifts variable or 3x12 hour shifts variable (traveler's choice)
- Shifts are either days or nights; no rotation between day/night shifts except for urgent staffing needs
Patient Ratio: 1:20
Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse in Long Term Care (LTC) setting
- Must have prior travel experience (previous travel experience required)
- Must have Alaska nursing license in hand before start
- LTC experience required
- No on-call required
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
- Locals not accepted (permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility)
- Pending licenses not accepted
- Limited time off allowed: no more than 2 weeks of requested time off (RTO) for a 26-week contract
- Must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); preference for willingness to work any holidays
- Guaranteed 60 hours per 2 weeks; traveler may be called off for one 12-hour shift per 2 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska
- Minimum 1 year of Long Term Care (LTC) experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working in a Long Term Care setting

Vehicle Information
- Facility provides a vehicle for use during assignment (either facility-owned or rental)
- Vehicle available 72 hours before contract start and must be returned within 24 hours after contract end
- Only the traveler may operate the vehicle
- Traveler must provide valid driver’s license and proof of insurance (including rental car coverage)
- Vehicle use limited to “around town” within a 30-mile radius; no off-road use
- Vehicle must be returned clean and with a full tank of gas
- Tire chains available at traveler’s expense
- Vehicle must be turned in during any time off and reissued upon return
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
- Drug screen: 10-panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Respirator fit testing required (updated annually; completed onsite if no recent record)
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years (not accepted for first-time travelers)
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required
Training & Competency
- Must complete facility and state-required training modules annually via LMS platform (WorkRamp)
- Modules include regulatory requirements, specialty-specific training, and trauma-informed care basics
- Alaska LTC-specific WorkRamp modules required
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually
Notes
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment
- Floating policy applies; may be required to float to other nearby facilities within reasonable distance
- No block scheduling accommodation
- No pending licenses accepted
- RTO requests must be submitted with application and prior to offer/contract signing
This position is ideal for experienced LTC RNs with prior travel experience who hold an active Alaska RN license and are ready for a flexible travel assignment in a long-term care setting.
