Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry (Night Shift)

Location: Fort Madison, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (8 weeks)
Start Date: May 18, 2026
End Date: July 12, 2026 (extension possible based on unit needs)

Job Summary

• Provide nursing care to patients on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit.
• Support the unit during an Epic EMR go-live.
• Deliver care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
• Patient populations include Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, and Telemetry.
• Must self-study telemetry strips and pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to continue working on the unit.
• Occasional on-call availability may be required during low census periods, with the expectation to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called in.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa
• Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records

Health and Compliance Requirements

• COVID-19 Vaccine (declination accepted)
• MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
• Hepatitis B (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
• Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
• Tdap (valid within 10 years; declination accepted)
• Influenza Vaccine (required annually by December 1; facility declination accepted)
• Negative TB test within the past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG) or documentation if history of positive test
• Fit Test for approved respirators completed prior to start
• Health Statement/Physician Statement within the last 12 months

Additional Requirements

• Background check including social security trace and county search for the last 7 years
• Adult and Child Abuse clearance as required by state
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (9-panel, THC not required)
• Skills checklist completed within the last 12 months
• Education verification and professional references (2 required, including 1 supervisor)
• Driver’s license or state ID current and valid throughout assignment
• Various professional attestations and compliance documents as required for onboarding

Work Environment

• Night shift coverage on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit.
• High standards of professional nursing and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

• This is a travel nursing assignment with a fixed start and end date.
