Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry
Location: Fort Madison, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 8 weeks)
Start Date: May 18, 2026
End Date: July 12, 2026 (extension possible based on unit needs)

Job Description
- Provide nursing care to patients on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit.
- Support the unit during an Epic EMR go-live (experience with Cerner and Epic required).
- Deliver care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Patient populations include Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, and Telemetry.
- Must self-study telemetry strips and pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to continue working on the unit.
- May be placed on call occasionally during low census periods; if called, must respond and arrive onsite within one hour.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing, with experience within the last year.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Proficient with Cerner and Epic electronic medical records.
- Ability to pass a telemetry dysrhythmia test upon assignment start.
- Must be able to respond to occasional on-call situations within one hour.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted)
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
- Hepatitis B (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
- Tdap (valid within 10 years; declination accepted)
- Influenza vaccine (required annually by December 1; vaccine or facility declination accepted)
- Negative TB test within the past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG) or appropriate documentation if history of positive test
- Fit test for approved respirators completed prior to start
- Health statement/physician statement within the last 12 months
Background and Documentation
- Professional license verification (primary source) within 30 days of start
- Background check including SS trace and county search for last 7 years
- Adult and Child Abuse clearance (state requirement)
- Drug screen (9 panel, within 30 days of start)
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months
- Education verification (highest level applicable to role)
- References: 2 professional references required, including 1 supervisor
- Driver’s license or state ID current and valid during assignment
- Other required attestations and compliance documents as per facility policy

- This is a travel nursing assignment with a fixed start and end date.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- The traveler is responsible for self-study and passing a telemetry dysrhythmia test early in the assignment.
- Occasional on-call availability may be required during low census periods.
