Job Opportunity: Respiratory Care Therapist
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule: 2 shifts of 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM), 4 weekends every 6 weeks
- Work settings include Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department
- Responsibilities include airway management, suctioning, pulmonary hygiene, sputum specimen collection, tracheostomy care, ventilator management, and medication administration
- Patient care for conditions such as ARDS, aspiration, COVID, cystic fibrosis, fresh tracheostomy, and pneumonia
- Use of various respiratory equipment and medication delivery systems including nebulizers, oxygen therapy, BiPAP, CPAP, and ventilators
- Professional skills required include ABG interpretation and chest physiotherapy
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Kansas
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Therapist (RRT), with experience within the last year
- Current BLS certification
- Certification from NBSTSA or NCCT
- Proficient in airway management devices and suctioning
- Experience caring for patients with COVID, cystic fibrosis, and fresh tracheostomy
- Skilled in oxygen therapy including high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Competent in ventilator troubleshooting, including managing high pressure alarms
- Experience with weaning patients from mechanical ventilation
- Knowledgeable in chest physiotherapy techniques, including vest therapy
- Ability to draw arterial blood gases (ABG)
- Skilled in direct intubation and oral airway placement
- Experience assisting with or performing bronchoscopy
Work Environment & Expectations
- Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required within scope of practice
- Weekend shifts required (approximately every 3rd weekend or 4 weekend shifts per schedule period)
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals within the area are accepted
- No block scheduling accommodation
- Maximum of 7 days off between shifts (RTO restrictions)
- Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Additional Compliance & Documentation
- Background checks including statewide, nationwide, and international (if applicable)
- Education verification required prior to start
- Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgements (e.g., HIPAA, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code) must be completed prior to start and updated annually
- Annual regulatory compliance education and training modules required
- State-specific searches and registrations may be required depending on assignment location
