Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Call one night weekly from 5pm – 7am
- One weekend every 4 weeks from Friday 5:00 pm – Monday 7:00 am
- Must have strong skills in Orthopedics, Total Joint Arthroplasty (TJA), sports medicine, foot and ankle, spine, and gynecology
Required Qualifications
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for South Carolina
- License must be current with no pending actions
- Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only; RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only; RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC only; RQI acceptable (check unit requirements)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA Advanced only (check unit requirements)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – ENA TNCC required (check unit requirements)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – AWHONN required as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA, OSHA/TJC training)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification (check unit requirements)
- Lactation Certificate for Baby Friendly (required for Women’s RN roles such as Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – medication and arrhythmia tests required for RNs in specific units
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification if required by unit
- Other certifications as applicable per unit or specialty
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required annually)
- Color Blind Testing (for nurses in Emergency Department or Pediatric ER)
- Core Competency Training Parts I, II, and III (annual, includes universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, etc.)
Background and Compliance
- 7-year background check within 12 months of start, including alias and multi-state searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
- Fingerprinting required if no proof of 12-month residency in state(s) lived in last year (may include WV fingerprinting if applicable)
- Education verification of highest level completed (diplomas not accepted as placeholders)
- OFAC Sanctions List Search required for all new/prestart candidates
- Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start attesting ability to meet job demands
- Respirator Fit Test completed onsite during orientation (N95 masks commonly used)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required (not required for remote workers)
Additional Requirements
- Badge photo meeting specific guidelines (passport style, plain background, no hats or sunglasses)
- Completion of online orientation modules within 72 hours of assignment
- Pre-assignment testing (medication and EKG) must be completed within 72 hours of receiving login information; two attempts allowed
- Floating policy acknowledgment (must be signed)
- Contractor acknowledgment signed within 24 hours of contract signing

- Strong clinical skills in Orthopedics, Total Joint Arthroplasty, sports medicine, foot and ankle, spine, and gynecology required
