Job Opportunity: MedSurgical Float Pool Nurse
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide high-quality nursing care in a MedSurgical setting with flexibility to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed. Work schedule includes 3 shifts per week, each 12 hours long (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours weekly. Availability required for weekdays, some weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care to MedSurgical patients
- Float between units as needed within similar or lower acuity levels
- Manage patient ratios of approximately 1:4-5
- Collaborate effectively with team members
- Maintain strong communication and organizational skills
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of MedSurgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- Proficient in Epic electronic health records system
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid RN license for Ohio (license verification required within 30 days of start)
- BCLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS) – verify per unit specifics
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed prior to start)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams may be required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (exceptions apply based on unit)
Additional Information
- Must be flexible to work some weekends and holidays
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varying patient acuity
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills essential
