Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Amarillo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Mixed med/surg and intermediate care patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 to 1:6 depending on shift assignment
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hour shifts, nights
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation and Compliance
- I-9 verification
- Driver’s License or State ID
- E-Verify compliance
- 7-year background check (updated annually) including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, and education verification
- Education verification (diploma or transcript acceptable if final verification pending)
- Fingerprinting (for certain states, time sensitive)
- Photo for badge
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented chickenpox history)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, etc.)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
Competency Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score)
- Color blind testing (online acceptable)
- Core competency exams as applicable (annual completion required)
Additional Notes
- No local candidates; must be willing to travel within a 50-mile radius
- Complete application and resume required
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
- 7-year work history verification required
