Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) setting.
- Patient ratio typically 1:1 to 1:2; ratios may vary when floated.
- Patient population includes fresh heart surgery patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
- Equipment experience required with devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax, or experience with fresh heart cases.
- Required skills include post-op open heart recovery, Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
- Experience with surgeries such as CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR preferred.
- Floating required to all ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and all IMC units.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- IV Certification
- Experience with cardiovascular devices and post-op care including:
- Impella
- IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) using Prismax
- Fresh heart cases
- Post-op open heart recovery
- Swan-Ganz catheter
- Flotrack
- Temporary pacers
- Arterial lines (A-lines)
- Chest tubes
Schedule & Time Off
- Every other weekend and holiday required, as applicable.
- All time off or schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer.
Additional Requirements
- Must provide 2 professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- New Jersey candidates require verification of at least 1 year of prior work history with no gaps longer than 30 days.
- Must complete required background checks and drug screening prior to start.
- Required health documents include:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per guidelines.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
- Immunization proof or immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Fit testing and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start, with on-site fit testing mandatory.
- Must complete medication and pharmacology competency exams, EKG/dysrhythmia competency exams, and other required clinical competencies within specified timeframes.
- Must complete annual education sign-offs and facility-specific orientation requirements.
Prior Travel Experience
- First-time travelers are accepted; prior travel experience is not required.
Notes
- Floating to multiple units is mandatory.
- Patient care involves complex cardiovascular cases requiring specialized skills and certifications.
- Compliance with all health, safety, and competency requirements is mandatory for assignment clearance and continuation.
