Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) setting.
- Patient ratio typically 1:1-2; may vary when floated.
- Patient population includes fresh heart transplant patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
- Equipment experience required with devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax, or experience with fresh heart cases.
- Required skills include post-op open heart recovery, Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
- Experience with fresh open heart surgeries such as CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR is essential.
- Floating required to all ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and all IMC units.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- IV Certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax, or experience with fresh heart cases
- Post-operative open heart recovery experience and skills
- Experience and skills with Swan-Ganz catheter
- Experience and skills with Flotrack
- Experience and skills with temporary pacers
- Experience and skills with arterial lines (A-lines)
- Experience and skills with chest tubes
Schedule
- Every other weekend and holiday required, as applicable.
- Time off or schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of identity (Government-issued photo ID and driver’s license).
- I-9 verification.
- Background check including criminal history and motor vehicle records.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Physical exam within the past 12 months, confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing (mandatory).
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement).
- Completion of required competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion, and pass/fail testing for EKG/medications.
- Color blindness testing if job tasks require color discrimination.
- Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete floating policy acknowledgment for every new assignment.
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
- Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey state requirement).
- Skills checklist updated annually.
Patient Care Environment
- Care for complex cardiovascular patients including fresh heart transplants and patients requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support.
- Exposure to critical care equipment and post-operative cardiac care.
