Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Slidell, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Assigned shift: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Call required on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Weekend coverage: 2 weekends per 6-week schedule
  • Cases per day: 10-25
  • Number of rooms: 7
  • May be assigned to an Emergency Team during events, requiring extended stay or relief coverage as directed by unit manager
  • Scrubs provided (green)
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers with sufficient OR experience
  • 2 years of nursing experience required; Cardiovascular OR experience preferred but not mandatory

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Cardiovascular OR experience preferred but not required
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID (color copy)
  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable if needed)
  • Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • License verification within 30 days of start; renewal must be completed prior to start if expiring soon
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required for certain units)
    • TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella immunity verification
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination series
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
  • Employment application and updated skills checklist (annual)
  • Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80% score

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments requiring extended presence or relief duties
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit
  • Color blind testing and other competency exams may be required depending on specialty
  • Photo for badge must be a recent, full-color passport-style photo without obstructions or filters
