Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Telemetry

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: 12-hour night shifts (36 hours per week offered)
Patient Population: Cardiac patients including those with congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, post cardiac catheterization


Job Description

  • Floating is required as needed, with potential to float every shift.
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients.
  • Weekend requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend).
  • Contract staff may be assigned to disaster response teams (Storm Team/Hurricane Team) and may be required to work during catastrophic events.
  • Unit monitors cardiac patients with cardiac drips such as Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine.
  • Special procedures include sheath pulls, TR Bands, Femstop.
  • Unit systems include Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication.
  • Orientation: 24 hours.
  • Scrubs: Not provided; Navy color recommended.
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • Experience in an Acute Care setting
  • PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience (Progressive Care Unit experience required)
  • Experience interpreting dysrhythmias and remote monitoring
  • Experience with pre- and post-cardiac catheterization and surgery
  • Sheath removal experience
  • Blood product administration experience
  • Central line and PICC line care management experience
  • Cardiac drip titration experience, including Diltiazem and Amiodarone
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Compliance and Testing Requirements

  • Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum score of 82%.
  • Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry checks required within 90 days prior to start.
  • Drug screening required within 30 days of start.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or PAPR training required within 1 year prior to start.
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with boosters if titers are negative or equivocal).
  • TB screening (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest x-ray and additional documentation required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB).
  • Completion of medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules prior to start.
  • Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire).
  • Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required.

  • Floating is mandatory as needed, with potential to float every shift.
  • Contract staff may be reassigned mid-contract to different units as needed.
  • Orientation and onboarding include a 24-hour unit orientation and multiple compliance trainings.
  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and training within specified timeframes to avoid delays or cancellations.
  • Candidates will be expected to work in a fast-paced cardiac telemetry environment with complex cardiac patients.
