Registered Nurse - ICU

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Unit & Work Setting

  • Medical Surgical ICU

  • Diagnoses include but not limited to:

    • Sepsis/Severe Sepsis/Septic shock
    • Respiratory Failure/Pulmonary diseases
    • Post Cardiac Arrest
    • GI bleed/Hemorrhagic shock
    • DKA, Acute Kidney Disease
    • Complicated surgery cases (perforations)
    • Pulmonary Edema, Pulmonary embolus
    • Drug Overdose (intentional and accidental)
    • Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia
    • Hypertensive Emergencies
    • Cardiac arrhythmias
    • Rhabdomyolysis
    • Metabolic Encephalopathy
    • Malignant neoplasms
  • Procedures and treatments include:

    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Targeted Temperature Management (TTM)
    • Chest Tubes, Bronchoscopies, Lumbar Punctures, Incision & Drainage (I&Ds)
    • Central line insertion assistance and maintenance (central and arterial lines)
    • Peritoneal Dialysis
    • Continuous Bladder irrigations
    • Continuous IV infusions (pressors, paralytics, sedatives, cardiac medications)
  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:2-3

  • Unit size: 15 beds with 13 rooms, average daily census of 12

  • Electronic systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR

  • Scrub color: Navy Blue

Schedule & Requirements

  • Return to Office (RTO) max 7 days
  • RTO blackout dates: Spring Break (April 4th-12th)
  • Weekends: Every other weekend unless otherwise specified
  • Floating: Yes, within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Call: None
  • Holidays: If one major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it; if two, work both; if three, work two of the holidays.
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse license for Georgia
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Compliance & Onboarding

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and screenings required or highly recommended:
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Color blindness test required

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (3 attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation)
  • General competency exam

References & Verification

  • Two clinical references required
  • Verification of most recent employer required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually

  • Floating within facility as needed
  • No call requirements
  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • Dress and professional appearance policy must be reviewed and followed
  • Code of conduct acknowledgment required prior to start
