Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a General Medical Surgical Unit caring for adult to geriatric patients. The nurse will work with a patient ratio of approximately 1:6 and utilize systems including Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR.
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in Medical Surgical or related specialty.
- 1st time travelers are accepted.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Weekend shifts: Every other weekend.
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed.
- Holidays: If one major holiday falls during the assignment, the nurse is expected to work it. If two or three major holidays fall, the nurse is expected to work two of them.
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days.
- Compliance with orientation and credentialing is required to start on time.
Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in Georgia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) may be required depending on unit specifics—verify based on specialty.

- Electronic Medical Record: Epic
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Communication: SBAR
Orientation & Training
- Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
- Competency exams required for medication administration, dysrhythmia/EKG, and pharmacology.
- Color blindness testing required.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification required; diploma/transcript may be needed.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
- Flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance.
- References: Two clinical references required.
- Work history verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
