Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a General Medical Surgical Unit caring for adult to geriatric patients. The nurse will work with a patient ratio of approximately 1:6 and utilize systems including Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR.

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in Medical Surgical or related specialty.
• 1st time travelers are accepted.
• Prior travel experience is not required.

Work Schedule & Requirements

• Weekend shifts: Every other weekend.
• Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed.
• Holidays: If one major holiday falls during the assignment, the nurse is expected to work it. If two or three major holidays fall, the nurse is expected to work two of them.
• Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days.
• Compliance with orientation and credentialing is required to start on time.

Certifications & Licenses

• Current Registered Nurse license valid in Georgia.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) may be required depending on unit specifics—verify based on specialty.

• Electronic Medical Record: Epic
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
• Communication: SBAR

Orientation & Training

• Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
• Competency exams required for medication administration, dysrhythmia/EKG, and pharmacology.
• Color blindness testing required.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Background check required within 30 days of start.
• Education verification required; diploma/transcript may be needed.
• Physical exam within 12 months of start.
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
  • Flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance.
• References: Two clinical references required.
• Work history verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
