Travel Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a specialty in Medical Surgical Oncology to provide care for adult to geriatric patients. The role involves managing oncology and hematology diagnoses, including oncologic emergencies and end-of-life care.
Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in the specialty
- 1st time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
Skills and Work Setting Requirements
- Experience with oncology diagnoses from diagnosis to death
- Hematology diagnoses
- Managing DNR/Comfort Care patients
- Handling oncologic emergencies
- Administering chemotherapy precautions
- Managing morphine and dilaudid drips, CADD pumps, PCA pumps
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health record system (required)
- Use of Pyxis medication dispensing system and SBAR communication method
Staffing and Scheduling
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:6
- Unit size: 19 beds, average daily census of 15
- Weekend shifts: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes, within facility and possibly to a nearby location (~3 miles)
- Call: None
- Return to Office (RTO) maximum: 7 days
- Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it; if 2 holidays, work both; if 3 holidays, work 2 of them
Orientation and Compliance
- Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length
Required Documentation and Compliance (Summary)
- Valid State Registered Nurse license for Georgia
- Background check completed within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification of nursing degree (can be pending with proof of processing)
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if history of positive TB)
- Required immunizations or titers: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (highly recommended)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
- Annual flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Medication and competency exams as required (e.g., Dysrhythmia/EKG competency for certain units)
- Color blindness test required
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Floating may include other units within the facility
- No call requirements
- References: 2 clinical references required by staffing agency (not by client)
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Georgia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience
- Hematology/Oncology experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
