Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU Nights
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily night shifts (3 shifts of 12 hours)
- Schedule includes weekdays and some weekends
- Key responsibilities include:
- Starting and managing IVs
- Administering medications safely
- Monitoring vital signs and patient responses
- Educating patients on treatments and self-care
- Collaborating with the care team on patient plans
- Using EPIC EMR for charting
- Floating to lower acuity units as needed
- Following hospital policies and maintaining patient safety
Required Qualifications
- Active Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification
- IV certification
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior travel nursing experience is a plus (not required)
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA provider or instructor accepted
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (with remediation process if needed)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code required)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly monitoring through federal exclusion lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (mask required if declined)
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually thereafter
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leader
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
