Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU/Stepdown
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown
- Schedule: Day/Night rotation with up to 4 weeks day shift and 4 weeks night shift
- Shift Requirements:
- At least 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays every 4 weeks
- 1-2 weekend day shifts (Saturday and Sunday) every 4 weeks
- Up to one holiday shift
- Minimum 4 weekend day shifts per 4 weeks (all day shifts), additional weekend shifts as needed
- Floating: Primary float to Heart Center Stepdown, then to other units as needed
- On-call duties required
- Block scheduling not accepted
- First-time travelers and local candidates are welcome
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Telemetry nursing, including PCU experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Must be able to work day/night rotations and meet weekend/holiday shift requirements
Orientation & Other Details
- Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered local
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid NC RN license or Compact license
- Background checks including:
- Criminal background (within 90 days) covering all counties lived/worked/attended school in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 90 days)
- Education verification as applicable
- OFAC sanctions list check (within 30 days)
- Health documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
- Required immunizations/vaccinations including Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio
- Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted)
- Drug test: Negative 10-panel drug screen (including THC) within 30 days of start
- References: Two professional references from employment within last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
- Facility-specific onboarding requirements including competency exams and guest account setup prior to clearance
Additional Notes
- Candidates must set up a guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
- Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge required at orientation (except RRTs)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided onsite during orientation (valid for 2 years)
