Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist

Location: Mountain Home, Arkansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

This position is for a Surgical Technologist who assists in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Responsibilities include setting up the operating room, preparing and transporting patients for surgery, adjusting lights and equipment, passing instruments and supplies to surgeons, holding retractors, cutting sutures, and helping count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. The role requires direct patient care in the perioperative unit and proficiency in a wide variety of advanced surgical technologist skills. The candidate must adhere to perioperative care standards and promote teamwork.


Work Schedule

  • Call required
  • 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid CVOR Technologist license in Arkansas
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a CVOR/Open Heart surgical technologist
  • CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Physical Demands

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and twist for 8-12 hours per shift
  • Occasionally lift 50 pounds or more of equipment and assist in lifting patients up to 125 pounds with proper body mechanics
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations (e.g., CPR)
  • Must handle critical and stressful situations with composure
  • Keen hearing and visual acuity to respond to patient needs and equipment alarms
  • May be exposed to environmental hazards including electrical currents, high heat, chemicals, infectious diseases, and potentially challenging patient populations

Work Environment

  • Hospital setting open 24/7, including holidays and inclement weather

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Background checks including 7-year history and various state/federal checks
  • Verification of education and employment history
  • Various certifications and competency exams as applicable
  • Health requirements including physical exam, immunizations (TDAP, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella), TB testing, drug screening, and seasonal flu vaccination or declination
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance forms

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Candidate must be able to meet all physical and safety requirements
  • Must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-stress surgical environment
