Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - IMC

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for an Intermediate Care (IMC) unit specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients. The unit focuses on neuro stepdown care with a patient census up to 24. The role requires strong teamwork, adherence to call-off policies, and the ability to titrate Levo (levothyroxine).


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience, with stepdown experience within the last year
  • Telemetry experience
  • One completed travel assignment
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Cardiac monitoring experience
  • Emergency response skills for telemetry patients, including rapid response/code team use
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation skills
  • TR Band management skills
  • IV insulin protocol skills and insulin drip titration skills
  • Feeding tube care and management skills
  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) skills
  • Blood product administration skills
  • Central line care and management skills

Work Details

  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Ratios: Approximately 1:3-4 (days and nights)
  • Float Requirement: Yes, to other intermediate areas and critical care units (ICU/Stepdown)
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
  • Scheduling: Per unit needs; no call-off or RTO (return to office) allowed after booking or onsite
  • Orientation: 32 hours total (8-hour computer class plus two shifts on unit)
  • Dress Code: Navy blue and white scrubs

Patient Population

Intermediate care patients with a neurological subspecialty focus, including medical intermediate patients.


Required Testing & Competencies

  • Must pass EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam within 72 hours of assignment start (minimum 82% score required)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year
  • Background check within 6 months
  • Drug screening within 6 months
  • Various health screenings including TB test, immunizations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella), flu vaccination or exemption
  • Physical exam (per travel agency standards)
  • Education verification and licensure verification as applicable

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Completion of hospital-specific orientation and compliance training modules
  • Submission of photo for badge creation (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Adherence to hospital policies including confidentiality, bloodborne pathogens training, medication safety, and annual compliance training
  • Completion of Epic system training or test-out option if eligible

Important Notes

  • Strong adherence to call-off policy is strictly enforced; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
  • Teamwork and professional behavior expected in all interactions with patients and staff
  • Candidates must have prior travel experience; no first-time travelers accepted for this unit
  • Candidates must be able to titrate Levo (levothyroxine)
  • Orientation and interview with management required prior to assignment start
