Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Newark, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
- Shift: Night shift, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
- Start Date: April 27, 2026
- Float Requirement: Yes, floating between Eastern region hospitals (Long term care to Acute care) as needed. Location determined during scheduling.
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (6 weekend shifts per contract)
- Transportation: Personal car required due to rural locations; rideshare services are unreliable.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist within the last year, including Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics specialty
- BLS certification
- Adult Critical Care experience
- Emergency Department experience
- Experience with intubation assist
- Experience with nasal airway placement and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Tracheostomy care and management experience
- Experience with handheld T-piece and ET tube
- Experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, and CPAP
- Experience in long term care settings
Skills & Responsibilities
- Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department experience
- Procedures: Extubation, Intubation Assist, Nasal and Oral Airway placement and suctioning, Sputum specimen collection, Tracheostomy care/management
- Ventilator management including weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Use of respiratory equipment such as Hamilton Vent, Servo-U, NKV330, V60
- Familiarity with BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), T-piece, Trach collar, Bag and mask
- Troubleshooting high pressure alarms
- Pulmonary hygiene and medication administration
- Patient assessment skills
Patient Population
- Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, Pneumonia, Respiratory Failure, Respiratory Infections
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and updated monthly
- Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
- Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Additional Notes
- Floating between facilities may include long term care and acute care settings
- Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing
- References and employment verification required as per agency policy
