Job Opportunity: Ultrasound Tech

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Ultrasound / Pediatrics
  • Shift: 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (Monday-Thursday, 9:30 AM - 8:00 PM)
  • Caseload: Varies daily
  • On-call: No
  • Travel Between Buildings: No, all work is in-house
  • Floating: No floating required

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Pediatric Ultrasound Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of dedicated pediatric ultrasound experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric and neonate patients in a pediatric hospital setting
  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ARDMS or ARRT certification required
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) ultrasound
    • TCD (Transcranial Doppler) ultrasound
    • Spines ultrasound
    • Liver Doppler (all vessels)
    • Renal Doppler and renal transplant ultrasound
    • Extremity venous Doppler
    • Intussusception ultrasound
    • Pyloric stenosis ultrasound
    • Appendix ultrasound
    • Neonatal head ultrasound

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Facility allows flexibility to work additional days as needed
  • Guaranteed hours with allowance for 1 shift off every 2 weeks
  • Radius rule: 60 miles
  • Locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis

  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub colors: Teal tops and black bottoms
  • Parking: Nights and weekends only, one-time payment required

Important Notes

  • During hurricane season (June-November, peak in August-September), all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams. Consider this before accepting assignments during this period.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year history, SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • Drug screening: 10-panel within 90 days of start
  • Physical exam: Initial and annual updates required
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella titers or vaccinations with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
    • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug-April)
  • COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Color blindness test required prior to start
  • Competency exams as applicable
  • Clinical references: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Photo for badge: Passport-style, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses

Certifications Specific to Pediatric Ultrasound Tech

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for pediatric units (except Pediatric OR)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
  • ACLS not required for pediatric ultrasound techs

Additional Notes

  • Orientation modules must be completed prior to start; failure to complete will result in being sent home
  • All required documents and certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start
  • Radiation badges are not required for ultrasound techs in this role
