Job Opportunity: NICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide specialized nursing care to neonates in a Level III NICU, caring for patients from 22 weeks gestation and above. Manage respiratory distress, glucose control, and care for neonates requiring surgery or cardiac interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive care to neonates, including those under 24-28 weeks gestation.
- Manage respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and infectious disease conditions.
- Administer medications using Pyxis system, including IV vasopressors, surfactants, and steroids.
- Document patient care accurately and timely using EPIC system.
- Use SBAR communication method for effective interaction with healthcare providers and families.
- Perform and manage arterial line and central line care, and interventions for neonatal abstinence syndrome.
- Oversee ventilator settings and adjustments (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP).
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Required Experience and Skills
- Experience in Level III and Level IV NICU settings.
- Competency in cardiovascular dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
- Proficient in gastrointestinal feeding methods and management of oral/nasogastric/nasojejunal tubes.
- Expertise in infection control and IV therapy, including umbilical artery and vein catheter management.
Collaboration
Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including nurse practitioners, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, respiratory services, social services, and unit secretaries.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Experience in Level III and Level IV NICU settings
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Competency in cardiovascular dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Expertise in IV therapy, including management of umbilical artery and vein catheters
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application and skills checklist must be completed.
- Fingerprinting must be completed using Ohio BCI & FBI codes with results obtained within 1 year of start date.
- Pending fingerprint results require a background check attestation prior to start.
Notes
- Prior experience in a Level III or IV NICU is essential.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Candidates with previous experience at a major children's hospital may receive special consideration.
- This is a travel/contract position with a 13-week assignment duration.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity neonatal intensive care environment with a multidisciplinary team, providing critical care to vulnerable neonates.
