Registered Nurse - PCU (Columbus, Ohio) - Travel/Contract
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a strong Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) background to provide care for high-acuity medical patients, including transplant and renal cases.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Strong Stepdown/PCU background
- Experience with transplant, renal, or high-acuity medical patients preferred
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active Ohio RN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Skills & Competencies
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Advanced respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
- IV insulin protocols and insulin drips
- Cardiac and vasoactive drips including titration
- Central line and PICC management
- Blood product administration
- Renal and liver transplant care
- Post-procedure recovery (kidney biopsy, paracentesis)
- EPIC charting
- Pyxis medication system
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Call required
- Float required within the organization
- Every other or every third weekend coverage
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending results allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually
Competency Exams
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required including education verification
- Skills checklist required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Advanced respiratory support experience (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
- Experience with IV insulin protocols and insulin drips
- Experience with cardiac and vasoactive drips, including titration
- Central line and PICC management experience
- Renal transplant care experience
- Liver transplant care experience
- Post-procedure recovery experience
