Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Camden, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2 (occasionally 1:3)
  • Unit Beds: 10
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-Call Requirement: Yes, at least 2 shifts every 6 weeks
  • Floating: May be required to float within scope to other units in the region

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience within the last year
  • Experience managing patient ratios for at least 2 years
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Education: Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Facility is an acute care hospital with 119 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking: Free in unrestricted areas
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue
  • Note: During hurricane season (June-November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Must include SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and FACIS 3
    • Completed within 90 days of start
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RN license
  • Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 90 days of start, cleared to work without restrictions
    • Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
    • Annual flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
    • COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
    • Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and other unit-specific competencies required
  • References: Two clinical references required, including at least one from the unit of assignment
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start is mandatory (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location)
  • First Day Instructions (FDI) will be provided after clearance
  • Passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, solid light background)
  • Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (not typical for ICU)

Additional Notes

  • Approval for block scheduling can be requested but is not guaranteed
  • Local candidates may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Travelers should consider hurricane season staffing requirements before accepting new or extension assignments

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 1 year of critical care experience who hold a valid South Carolina or Compact RN license and current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications. Prior travel experience is not required.
