Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVOR

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Must independently scrub cardiac surgery and circulate in the CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room).
  • Work schedule: 40 hours per week, consisting of 2 twelve-hour shifts and 2 eight-hour shifts per week.
  • Shift times: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 10:45 AM - 7:15 PM.
  • Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2.
  • Weekend requirement: Two 24-hour on-call shifts per schedule.
  • On-call requirement: 2 calls per Monday-Friday week (either 7 PM - 11 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM) with 1 day per week available to stay late.
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required.
  • First-time travel nurses are accepted.
  • Pending license accepted, but must have an active license prior to start date.
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval.
  • Guaranteed hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut prior to start.
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, with CVOR experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Ability to independently scrub cardiac surgery and circulate in the CVOR.
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Schedule Details

  • 2 twelve-hour shifts + 2 eight-hour shifts per week.
  • Shift hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 10:45 AM - 7:15 PM.
  • On-call shifts required during weekdays.
  • Weekend on-call shifts required.

Additional Requirements & Training

  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and education verifications.
  • Various facility-specific training modules and attestations (e.g., Stroke Education, CLABSI Prevention, Pressure Injury Prevention, Language Services, CAUTI Education, Suicide Risk Assessment, Pyxis MedStation, Baxter Pump Interoperability, Patient Bedside Rounding, Ventricular Assist Device Awareness, Blood Administration, New Employee Orientation, 21st Century Cures Act, ED Handbook, eCart Training, Chaperone Policy Training).
  • Health documents including:
    • Physical exam within 12 months.
    • Fit mask test within 12 months (annual update required).
    • Immunizations and titers (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray.
    • Drug screening (10 panel) within 12 months.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
    • COVID vaccination preferred.
  • References: One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU assignments.
  • Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days.
  • Skills checklist and work history verification required within 12 months of start.

Notes

  • Floating within scope is required to meet facility needs.
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated.
  • Scrub color and charting system provided.
  • Parking available at a monthly cost.

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs who are comfortable with cardiac surgery cases, flexible with on-call and weekend requirements, and ready to work in a high-acuity, Level I trauma center environment.
