Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience to work in a Level 3 NICU. This is a travel contract position requiring night shifts with a schedule of four 12-hour shifts every other week (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care in a Level 3 NICU setting.
• Must be proficient with neonatal oscillating ventilators and have experience with Draeger ventilators.
• Float between NICU and Pediatric units as needed, including coverage at multiple campuses.
• Work every other weekend and holidays as required.
• May be asked to orient students or new hires.
• Support all hospital units as needed depending on census and staffing.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Connecticut
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• Experience working with Neonate patients
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Certifications & Training Requirements

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required depending on unit
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) as applicable
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 85% on NICU portion)
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
• Other facility-specific training modules and attestations as required (e.g., infection prevention, patient safety, equipment training)

Background & Health Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
• Employment and education verifications
• Drug screening (10-panel within 12 months)
• Physical exam within 12 months
• Fit mask test within 12 months (annual updates required)
• Immunizations and titers including Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB screening, and flu vaccination or approved exemption
• COVID-19 vaccination series preferred
• Annual TB questionnaire

Additional Information

• Must be able to provide a 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days.
• Floating between units and campuses is expected based on staffing needs.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• Facility uses EPIC for charting.
• Position is in a short-term acute care hospital with Level II Trauma designation.
