Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Float Registered Nurse
Location: Boone, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Dedicated float position covering Intermediate/Stepdown/MedSurg units based on patient volume.
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours (3x12), weekdays with up to 2 weekends per month.
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays during the contract.
- No holiday RTO (Request Time Off) allowed.
- Flexibility in floating between units is essential.
- Blocked schedule requests may be considered if submitted at the time of application.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Minimum 2 years of total travel nursing experience.
- Current certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Recent proficiency with Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Additional Requirements
- Must wear all white or all navy scrubs.
- Must be willing to complete facility-specific orientation and documentation.
- Must provide proof of required immunizations and health screenings, including but not limited to:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the past year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Drug screening within 90 days prior to start.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history and other federal/state checks.
- Must complete competency exams and maintain required certifications annually.
Important Notes
- Candidates must be very flexible regarding floating assignments.
- Holiday work is mandatory as specified.
- Photo ID and badge photo required.
- Various facility-specific documents and self-study orientation must be completed.
- References and performance evaluations may be required if previously employed with the staffing agency.
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs who are adaptable, flexible, and comfortable working across multiple acute care units with a strong commitment to patient care and compliance with facility policies.
