Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU Float Pool (Nights)
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Job Description
- Position in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Float Pool during night shifts.
- Float responsibilities may include any stepdown/PCU area and potentially other campuses with similar or lower acuity levels.
- Estimated patient ratios: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU), including PCU Float experience.
- PCU experience must be within the last year.
- Proficient in Telemetry (TELE) monitoring.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
- Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM).
- Knowledge of NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio.
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam).
Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with some unit exceptions).
Background & Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting required prior to start.
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting must be completed using specific codes and within 1 year of start.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining.
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
Additional Information
- May be required to float to other units or campuses with similar or lower acuity.
- Parking permits available for purchase (details not included here).
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses comfortable with floating across PCU and stepdown units, skilled in telemetry, and proficient with EPIC. The role requires strong clinical competencies, adherence to strict background and health requirements, and flexibility to work nights and float as needed.
