Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (Night Shift)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a 12-hour night shift in the Emergency Department with floating responsibilities. Oncology experience is preferred but not required.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 2 years Emergency Department (ED) experience
- 1 year of prior travel experience required
- EPIC electronic health record experience is required
- Oncology experience preferred but not mandatory
Certifications Required
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Skills
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with telemetry monitoring
Patient Ratio
- 1 nurse to 4 patients
Time Off
- Request Time Off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application
- Up to 7 consecutive days off may be granted at facility discretion for this 13-week contract
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and state fingerprinting
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program
- Monthly monitoring through workforce screening systems
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documentation including:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed)
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear before assignment
- Candidates with gaps in employment over 30 days may require updated health and background documentation
- Facility may grant time off requests but requires submission at application
