Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR RN)
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, Days (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Call: Up to 4 weeknight on-call shifts per 4-week schedule
- Weekend: Includes 1 weekend shift rotation
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet unit needs, including between like units
Facility & Unit Highlights
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet-designated hospital
- Main Operating Room with 21 OR suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, and Robotics
- Nursing team: 75% RNs trained to scrub and circulate surgical procedures
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color provided
- Busy, dynamic, nurse-driven environment
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, with OR experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Radiation Badge (provided by agency)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in a Level 1 trauma center
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval
- Local radius: 60 miles
- Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
Onboarding & Compliance Requirements
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, and state-specific searches (past 7 years)
- Education verification and diploma/transcripts preferred
- Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required
- Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Required immunizations and health documents:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination/booster documentation
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (flu declinations not accepted)
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
- Radiation badge process must be completed before starting floor work (may take 5-7 days to arrive)
- Assigned to emergency response teams (STORM Teams) during hurricane season (June-November)

- Must be prepared for a dynamic, fast-paced OR environment with a focus on teamwork and patient safety
- Facility uses EPIC for charting and requires adherence to all compliance and credentialing standards
- Travelers must complete all required documentation and certifications prior to start to avoid delays or removal from assignment
