Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PACU

Location: Midland, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Start Date: Preferred within the next 3-5 weeks
Schedule: Monday to Friday, call required


Job Description

  • Provide care in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) with coverage assistance in Pre-Op.
  • Experience required with recovery of patients from orthopedic, neurological, general, urology, dental (adults and pediatrics), gynecology, and pediatric ENT surgeries (e.g., tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy, bilateral myringotomy tubes).
  • Must have pediatric experience; critical care experience strongly preferred.
  • Level II trauma experience preferred.
  • Skilled in monitoring patients with nerve blocks, chest tube insertions, central lines, intubation, and arterial lines.
  • Call coverage is required.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience recovering patients for PACU surgeries excluding cardiac surgeries
  • Experience with orthopedic, neurological, urology, and OB/GYN surgeries
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience monitoring patients with nerve blocks, chest tube insertions, central lines, intubation, and arterial lines (A-lines)
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Required Background and Compliance

  • 10-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start.
  • Employment and education verifications required.
  • State-specific background checks including Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Employee Misconduct Registry required within 30 days prior to start.
  • Drug screening required prior to start and additional screening onsite during orientation.
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months of start.
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or agency declination (October 1 - March 31)

Additional Requirements

  • Must review and sign confidentiality, security agreements, drug screening consent, TB questionnaire, and compliance checklists prior to start.
  • Must complete facility-specific orientation and safety training.
  • Two professional references required within 3 years of start.
  • Resume or employment application required.
  • Annual competency exams and skills checklists required.
