Job Description

• Seeking a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Surgical Technologist with proficiency in cardiac cases.
• Shift hours: 0600-1430, with every third weekend rotation.
• Must have formal education with a technical diploma specifically from CST training (on-the-job training or unrelated diplomas are not accepted).
• Required skills and knowledge include:

  • BLS certification
  • NBSTSA certification
  • Scrubbing techniques
  • Aseptic technique
  • Universal protocol (timeout)
  • Radiation, laser, and fire safety
  • Specimen labeling and handling
  • Sterilization and disinfection
• Minimum of 2 years CVOR experience required.

Required Qualifications

• CVOR Technologist with at least 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Technical Diploma from CST training or certified transcripts from CST training program.
• Must be able to comply with all background checks and education verifications.
• Fit testing and immunizations as required (see Health Requirements).

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• Education verification matching specialty required; diploma or transcript may be accepted if verification is unavailable.
• KY State Abuse Registry check if applicable.
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start.
• Professional references: 2 required for clinical candidates.

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - may be required depending on unit.
• Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI may be required depending on specialty/unit.
• Competency exams and color blindness testing required prior to start.

Health Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required by facility but required by agency standards).
• Fit mask testing annually; religious exemption process available if needed.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • Tdap within 10 years.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or IgG titer.
  • Hepatitis B - surface antibody titer, series, or declination.
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or IgG titer.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season.
  • COVID-19 vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption.
• TB questionnaire and annual updates required.

Additional Notes

• Candidate must provide a badge photo (shoulders up, solid light background).
• Driver’s license required if driving is a major job function.
• Fit test religious exemption requires additional documentation.
• Performance evaluations will be completed by unit managers after start.
• Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR Surgical Technologists who meet strict education and certification requirements and are comfortable working in a cardiac surgical environment with rotating weekend shifts.
