Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse

Location: Clarksburg, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, either days (7am-7pm) or nights (7pm-7:30am), weekdays with every other weekend
Patient Population: Adults (Behavioral Health/Psychiatric)
Staffing Notes:

• Travelers fill in for uncovered shifts; block scheduling requests are not accommodated.
• Limit holiday time-off requests to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays.
• Facility is strict on attendance; absences of 3+ consecutive days require doctor’s note and medical clearance before return.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Important Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Fingerprinting: Must be completed in West Virginia at least 7-10 business days prior to start via WV Cares system. Results take 5-7 days; no exceptions. Candidates must be prepared to arrive early to complete this.
• Background Checks:

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
• Education Verification: Official transcript or education verification required (diploma not accepted)
• NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
• Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (initial and annual)
  • Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, and Flu vaccine (seasonal flu vaccination required annually unless approved exemption)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Flu Vaccine: Required for all candidates during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31). Medical or religious exemptions accepted only with facility approval and proper documentation.
• References: Minimum 3 professional references within past 2 years required (manager/charge nurse references preferred)
• Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable unit
• Additional Documentation:

  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background)
  • Signed facility-specific forms including media consent, flu policy acknowledgement, background disclosure, infection control questionnaire, and authorization/release forms (time sensitive)
  • Completion of onboarding modules prior to orientation (approx. 8-20 hours)

Work Environment & Notes

• Behavioral Health setting with adult patients, including forensic units.
• Shift coverage is critical; facility has limited tolerance for call-outs.
• Orientation includes CPI and First Aid training if not already certified.
• Facility uses Avatar EMR system.
• Scrubs are provided in navy or royal blue colors.

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse in West Virginia requiring at least 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience. Prior travel experience is not required.
