Registered Nurse - NICU (Maine, Portland) - Travel Contract

Job Summary

Seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RN) to provide travel support in a high-acuity Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting. The NICU includes a 31-bed Level III/IV unit, a 20-bed Level II NICU, and a 10-bed Level II NICU satellite. The role involves working 36-hour rotating day/night shifts, every other weekend.

Contract Length

  • Approximately 26 weeks

Work Environment

  • The NICU is currently operating above staffed capacity with a census of 61+ patients across three physical locations.
  • The unit is undergoing construction, temporarily closing some beds and expanding operations to additional units.
  • Staffing demands require additional experienced RNs to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios and manage geographic workflow complexity.
  • Orientation period of 2-3 days before assuming full patient assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Maine
  • Minimum of 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nursing experience
  • NICU nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • Rotating day and night shifts
  • Every other weekend required

Additional Information

  • The position supports a sustained increase in patient volume and acuity.
  • Travelers will help offset leave of absences and staffing shortages.
  • Essential to maintain safe, high-quality neonatal care during construction and census surge.
