Registered Nurse - NICU (Maine, Portland) - Travel Contract

Job Summary

Seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RN) to provide travel support in a high-acuity Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting. The NICU includes a 31-bed Level III/IV unit, a 20-bed Level II NICU, and a 10-bed Level II NICU satellite. The role involves working 36-hour rotating day/night shifts, every other weekend.

Contract Length

Approximately 26 weeks

Work Environment

The NICU is currently operating above staffed capacity with a census of 61+ patients across three physical locations.
The unit is undergoing construction, temporarily closing some beds and expanding operations to additional units.
Staffing demands require additional experienced RNs to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios and manage geographic workflow complexity.
Orientation period of 2-3 days before assuming full patient assignments.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Maine
Minimum of 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nursing experience
NICU nursing experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Schedule

36 hours per week
Rotating day and night shifts
Every other weekend required

Additional Information

The position supports a sustained increase in patient volume and acuity.
Travelers will help offset leave of absences and staffing shortages.
Essential to maintain safe, high-quality neonatal care during construction and census surge.
