Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical First Assistant (CVOR)

Location: New Bern, North Carolina

Job Description

• Position in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
• Typical shifts Monday to Friday, either 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM or 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM for heart cases (heart cases start earlier).
• Every third weekend required.
• Call required.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical First Assistant credential required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification as required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Surgical Services specialty.
• No first-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience required).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Proof of government-issued photo ID.
• Proof of I-9 eligibility or attestation.
• E-Verify documentation or attestation.
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, social security trace, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 3, and others as required.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
• Education verification as applicable.
• State license primary source verification required.
• NURSYS verification required for RNs (if applicable).
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within one year of start.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months.
• Fit mask test within one year of start and updated annually (specific mask types required).
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year (with specific protocols for past positives).
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or declination.
  • Varicella vaccination, titer, or history of chickenpox.
• Seasonal influenza vaccine or documented declination during flu season.
• COVID-19 vaccination status requested but not required.

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references within the last 12 months, with at least one from a supervisor or charge nurse.
• Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable, updated annually.
• Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment.
• Performance evaluations if previously employed with the facility for over 1 year.

Notes

• This position requires prior travel experience; first-time travelers will not be considered.
• Call and weekend work are part of the schedule.
• Heart cases may require earlier start times than standard OR cases.
