Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (Travel/Contract)
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Primarily caring for admitted patients in the Emergency Department (ED).
- ED consists of approximately 60%-80% admitted patients, with many rooms designated as "ED Holding."
- Shifts are 36 or 48 hours.
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred.
- Floating within scope to Adult PCUs is expected; floating to Pediatric ED is optional. Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE) as well.
- Weekend work required as needed (weekend days: Saturday and Sunday; weekend nights: Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
- No on-call requirement.
- No local candidates accepted within 100 miles radius.
- Pending New Mexico nursing license accepted at time of submission.
- COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience required.
- Will consider candidates with 1.5 years experience.
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred.
- Prior travel experience strongly preferred; however, candidates with 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience may be considered without prior travel.
- First-time travelers accepted.
Patient Ratios
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:5
Required Certifications
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) must be completed before submission.
- NIH Stroke Certification (can pend until compliance due date before start).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ENPC, CPI, Management of Assaultive Behavior).
Licensure
- New Mexico RN license required (can be pending at time of submission).
- Must bring original New Mexico license with 3D seal onsite.
Work Environment
- Level I Trauma Center, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Short-term Acute Care facility.
- Total staffed beds: 554.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- Scrub color: Black.
- Free parking available.
Scheduling & Hours
- Contracted hours: 36, 40, or 48 hours per week.
- Facility may call off up to 3 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
- Overtime applies after 48 hours (for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025).
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks.
- A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of work, whichever comes first.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: absences greater than 7 days require approval.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
Additional Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (identification cards not accepted).
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, fingerprinting (done onsite during orientation).
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Immunizations required:
- COVID-19 vaccination (with exemptions accepted).
- Flu vaccine required year-round (exemptions allowed with proper documentation).
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required.
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer accepted.
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted).
- Completion of facility-specific compliance forms and training, including Cerner training attestation (required for new orientation groups).
- References: Two professional references within three years of hire.
- Employment application with at least 3 years of work history required.
- Skills checklist and work history verification required (3 years minimum).
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico (pending accepted at time of submission).
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience, with at least 1.5 years in the ED within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification required prior to submission.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (can pend until compliance due date before start).
