Registered Nurse – Emergency Room
Location: Yuma, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse to work in a Level 2 trauma ER setting. The facility handles a high volume of patients with a variety of emergency needs including trauma Level I and II cases.
Key Details
- Trauma Level: Level 2 trauma center (extension of a main campus Level 2 trauma, STEMI, and Stroke receiving center)
- ER Beds: 20 beds, including 2 trauma bays and 6 fast track beds
- Patient Volume: Approximately 300 patients per day
- Patient Ratios:
- Medical: 1:5
- Urgent Care: 1:2-3
- Fast Track: 1:6
- Security: In-house 24/7, located in ER lobby
- Shift Start Times: Varied (7am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm) with modified self-scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Typically 2 shifts out of 5 (including eves)
- Floating: Shared schedule with main campus ER; infrequent last-minute floating; 15-minute drive to main campus
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
- Orientation: One day New Employee Orientation, one day clinical/EMR training, one day floor orientation (3p-3a shift)
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room nursing experience
- Must have trauma Level I or II experience within the last 2-3 years (Level III or lower not accepted)
- Experience with gunshot wounds and stab wounds is a plus
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
- EMR: Epic proficiency required with experience within the last 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not specified as required
Clinical Environment & Support
- Common Diagnoses: Wide range of emergency conditions
- Common Drips: ICU-level drips for hold patients; ICU staff available for assistance
- Staffing:
- Physicians and mid-level providers on varied shifts, including pediatric board-certified providers
- No charge nurse on shift; house supervisor available for assistance
- ED techs with 2+ years experience assist with EKGs, vitals, blood draws, splints
- Patient Care Assistants with less than 2 years experience assist with similar duties
- Respiratory Therapy: RT assigned 24/7 for ABGs, nebulizer treatments, ventilators, CPAP
- Equipment: Glidescope, Hamilton and Phillips ventilators
- Telemetry: RN reads own telemetry; monitor techs also available
- Imaging: Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER; transport team available; RN accompanies critical patients
- Lab Draws: ED techs perform lab draws; RNs may draw from IV starts
- Triage: Quick look with two areas using Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
- Holding Area: Intermixed with ER beds
- Psych/Seclusion Rooms: None available
Additional Notes
- Start dates are fixed and not flexible
- 100-mile radius rule applies
- No 48-hour shift guarantees
- No blocked scheduling requests allowed
- Return to Office (RTO) limited to no more than 5 days
