Registered Nurse - Peds PACU

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit: Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Pre-Op
• Beds: 12 PACU beds and 12 Pre-Op beds
• Phases Covered: Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery (travelers cover both)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Phase 1: 1:1
  • Phase 2: 1:2
  • Pre-Op: 1:3 to 1:5
• Common Cases: Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy (T&A), Bilateral Tympanostomy Tubes (BVTs), Gastroscopies, Laparoscopic Appendectomy, Urology, Orthopedic cases
• EMR System: EPIC
• Charge Nurse: Does not take patient assignments
• Support Staff: Perioperative care assistants available (1 at night, ratio 1:2 in pre & post)
• Respiratory Equipment: Occasionally BiPAP used
• ICU Patients: Do not recover in PACU
• RNs read cardiac/respiratory strips

Schedule & Call Requirements

• Shifts: Rotating 10-hour shifts

  • 2100-0730 (night)
  • 1100-2130 (day)
• Call:

  • 16-24 total hours per month, self-scheduled by RN (weeknight and weekend combined)
  • 8-hour holiday call required during summer
  • Call response time: 1 hour
• Floating: None required

Required Certifications & Experience

• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric PACU nursing experience
  • Pre/post-operative experience required
  • Floor nursing experience preferred but not mandatory
• Prior travel experience: Not specified as required

Orientation & Dress Code

• Unit-specific orientation: 2 days
• Scrubs: Two sets assigned via hospital scrub system

This position is ideal for a pediatric PACU nurse with solid post-anesthesia care experience, comfortable with pediatric cases and rotating shifts, and holding current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
