Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cartersville, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks


Unit Details

  • Weekend Schedule: Every Other Weekend
  • Call: None
  • Floating: Within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years (First-time travelers accepted)
  • Holiday Work: Required to work major holidays if they fall within the assignment period (up to two holidays)
  • Orientation: Non-billable orientation hours based on contract length (e.g., 10 hours for 10-week assignment)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Policy: Maximum 7 days allowed for return to office
  • Compliance: Full compliance required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start; includes criminal, sex offender, education verification, and other checks
  • Education Verification: Verification of related degree required; can be pending at start with proof of processing
  • Physical Exam: Required within 12 months prior to start
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screen acceptable
  • Immunizations & Health Documents:
    • TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or chest x-ray if positive history
    • TB Questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster plan if needed
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster plan if needed
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
    • Tdap highly recommended but not required for clearance
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry and related units
    • Color Blind Testing required
  • References: Two clinical references required
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated within the last 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof of processing

Additional Notes

  • Floating assignments may be required within the facility and scope of practice
  • Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
  • Orientation hours and requirements are tied to contract length and facility policies
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
