Description

Occupational Therapist - Inpatient Rehab

Location: Batavia, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Assess individuals' physical, communication, and cognitive skills to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Serve as a member of a treatment team; attend care plan meetings and communicate occupational therapy treatment plans to family members.
  • Administer occupational therapy programs and provide treatment to individuals with complex occupational therapy needs.
  • Select, train, and monitor adaptive techniques and equipment; ensure maintenance of equipment.
  • Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental ADL.
  • Teach individuals new ways of approaching tasks and breaking down activities into achievable components.
  • Assist individuals with exercises for pain relief.
  • Observe and review individuals’ progress and adapt treatment accordingly.
  • Supervise and train Occupational Therapy Assistants and Physical Therapy Assistants; review and cosign paperwork.
  • Evaluate and initiate skilled Occupational Therapy treatments in accordance with provider orders.
  • Maintain communication with providers and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Complete paperwork and billing in a timely manner.
  • Update care plans when changes are noted.
  • Participate in discharge planning, home assessments, and equipment ordering.
  • Provide professional interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and families.
  • Attend to responsibilities of the Director of Rehab in their absence.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Occupational Therapist license for New York State.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Successful completion of competency exams as required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD accepted).
  • Required vaccinations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • Drug testing (9 panel) within 1 year of start date.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination for 2025-26 season.
  • COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required.
  • Criminal background check including fingerprinting (to be completed onsite except for certain facilities).
  • New York Statewide Central Registry clearance.
  • Medicaid enrollment documentation as required.
  • Two professional references required.

Additional Information

  • Position is part-time or per diem as needed.
  • This is a request for qualifications (RFQ) position; selection depends on bid outcomes and facility review.
  • Candidates should be patient with the state-run bid and selection process, which may take 7-14 business days after bid closing.
