Job Opportunity: Speech Language Pathologist - Inpatient Rehab

Location: Batavia, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Consult with patients, review medical history and referrals related to symptoms and diagnoses.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for speech and swallow therapy based on provider orders.
  • Participate as a member of the treatment team, attend care plan meetings, and communicate treatment plans to family members as needed.
  • Assist patients with equipment for eating, drinking, and communication strategies.
  • Recommend diet consistencies and dining techniques.
  • Teach and coach speech and/or swallow exercises.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Supervise and train new Speech Language Pathologists; review and co-sign paperwork as needed.
  • Maintain communication with healthcare providers.
  • Educate staff on choking prevention, dysphagia, aspiration, and communication techniques.
  • Complete paperwork and billing promptly.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
  • Update residents’ care plans when changes occur.
  • Participate in discharge planning and equipment ordering.
  • Maintain professional interactions with residents, coworkers, visitors, and families.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid license as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in New York State.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Completion of a competency exam as required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD accepted).
  • Annual completion of TB questionnaire.
  • Vaccination documentation or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing (9 panel) within 1 year of start date.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination for 2025-26.
  • COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required.
  • Criminal background check fingerprinting required (to be completed onsite except for certain facilities).
  • Submission of New York State Medicaid enrollment documentation as applicable.
  • Two professional references required.

Additional Information

  • Position is part-time or per diem as needed.
  • This is a request for qualifications (RFQ) position; selection depends on bid results and facility review.
  • Background checks include social security trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender registry, and fingerprinting.
  • Fingerprinting process and documentation requirements are specific to New York State regulations.
  • Candidates must be patient with the state-run bid and hiring process, which may take 7-14 business days after bid closure to determine interview eligibility.
