Description
Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work hours: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Schedule: Typically 4 days of 10-hour shifts; hours may flex based on patient volume
- Unit staffing: Always 2 therapists per machine
- Average daily patient census: 80
- Patient-to-therapist ratio: 1:1
- Upon starting, you may be assigned to an Emergency Team with expectations to stay onsite during emergency events or be part of relief efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- ARRT (Therapy) certification required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
Important Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID (color copy required)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings must be completed and updated as required
- License verification within 30 days of start; renewals must be completed prior to start date if expiring soon
- Annual competency exams specific to specialty with minimum 80% score
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start confirming good health
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tdap (for certain units)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
- Photo for badge: Full color, passport-style photo taken within last 6 months
Additional Notes
- Emergency preparedness training and participation may be required during hurricane season (June 1 – Nov 30)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit assignment
- Fit mask testing (N95) required within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
This position is suitable for radiation therapists comfortable with travel assignments and emergency response duties.
