OR Registered Nurse (RN) - West Virginia

Job Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift Length: 8-hour shifts (also available 10- and 12-hour shifts with varied start times, primarily day/evening)
• Shift Scheduling: No self-scheduling for travelers; block scheduling allowed if it meets unit needs
• Call Requirements:

  • One weeknight on-call (7pm-7am)
  • One weekend day on-call (7am-7pm) per month
  • Call response time: 20 minutes (if >20 minutes away while on call, required to stay)
• Weekend Requirement: One weekend day on-call per month
• Holidays: No holiday shifts required
• Charge Nurse: Yes, from 7am to 7pm; may circulate cases if needed
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 in the OR
• EMR System: EPIC
• Scrubs: Provided for RNs and OR Techs
• Floating: Not required
• Orientation: 3 shifts floor-specific orientation

Unit Information

• Main OR has 14 suites
• Average 28 cases per day with 5 add-ons (including same-day surgery cases)
• Common cases: All surgical cases except open heart; includes neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general surgery, ENT
• Vents: Yes, ventilated patients are brought to OR and maintained in PACU by RTs
• RT Coverage: Respiratory therapists available 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7 with Omnicell system
• Scrubbing: RN scrubbing is a plus but not required
• Telemetry: RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips in the OR (anesthesia interprets)
• Surgeon On-Call Hours: Weekdays 7pm-7am; weekends 7pm Friday to 7am Monday
• Additional Notes: Techs handle room turnover and housekeeping duties; typically run 7-8 ORs with 2 techs per RN

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and PALS required
• Experience: 2-3 years of OR nursing experience required
• Travel Experience: 2-3 previous travel assignments preferred
• Preferred Experience: Orthopedic and neurology surgical experience preferred

Additional Submission Requirements

• Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with an address outside 50 miles from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after completing at least 1 full year on assignment
• Background disclosures required at time of submission

This position requires a strong, independent RN who will be the sole nurse during assigned hours and responsible for charge duties and case posting.
