Job Opportunity: Dialysis Registered Nurse
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Acute hemodialysis experience required for day shift (no cycler experience needed).
- Night shift requires competency with cycler, CAPD, obtaining PD fluid samples, and hemodialysis.
- Patient diagnoses include end-stage renal disease on dialysis, chronic kidney disease progressing to hemodialysis, acute kidney injury, peritoneal dialysis failure/infection, and transplant rejection requiring hemodialysis.
- Unit includes acute hemodialysis with 9 stations plus one isolation station.
- ICU/PCU and bedside treatments require 1:1 patient ratios (patients may be on ventilators, titratable IV drips, airborne isolation).
- Equipment used: Fresenius hemodialysis machines (T, CliC, Bibag), Marcor Millenium HX portable reverse osmosis machines, Baxter peritoneal dialysis equipment.
- Documentation and communication systems: Pyxis, EPIC Dimensions, Voalte phone for verbal report.
- Self-scheduling with 12-hour night shifts (36 hours per week).
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- No call or float requirements.
- Ratio: 1:1 to 1:2 patient care.
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of dialysis experience, including dialysis experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS certification.
- Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred.
Orientation & Training
- 24 hours total orientation: 12 hours ICU/offsite and 12 hours dialysis room/peritoneal dialysis.
- Scrubs provided.
Patient Population & Care Environment
- Patients with complex renal conditions requiring dialysis modalities.
- Care includes ICU-level acuity with ventilators and isolation precautions.
Additional Notes
- No return-to-office (RTO) after booking allowed. Call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation or denial of rehire.
- Days off may be arranged as schedule allows based on department needs.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements (Summary)
- Background check within 6 months required.
- Drug screening within 6 months required.
- Immunizations and health screenings including TB test, Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, and flu vaccination or approved exemption required.
- Various facility-specific mandatory trainings and acknowledgments required prior to start.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing may be required.
