Description
Pharmacist Position in Iowa
Location: Cherokee, Iowa
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid Hospital Pharmacist license in Iowa
- RPh or PharmD degree
- Minimum of 1 year of hospital pharmacist experience within the last year
- BLS Certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of federal and state pharmacy laws
- Understanding of medical terminology, drug classifications, and pharmaceutical arithmetic
- Familiarity with pharmacy literature and online research resources
- Strong problem-solving skills, both independently and in teams
- Attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in learning and using various computer programs
Essential Functions
- Maintain proper storage and records of non-prescription, legend, and controlled substances
- Ensure pharmacy security
- Serve as a clinical resource for providers, nurses, and other patient care personnel
- Create vancomycin dose regimens and monitor lab levels as needed
- Compound or oversee compounding of sterile IV products, including hazardous products
- Dispense medications and maintain prescription records in patient medical records
- Provide age-appropriate pharmaceutical services to all patients served
- Offer verbal counseling to outpatient clients or their proxies at the time prescriptions leave the pharmacy
- Document adverse drug reactions of uncommon or serious nature
- Summarize interventions appropriately in the electronic medical record
- Manage initial contacts from pharmaceutical representatives
- Participate actively on antibiotic stewardship and pharmacy & therapeutics committees
- Oversee use of automated dispensing systems including staff access, stock levels, and dispensing
- Participate in rapid response, code blue, and trauma calls during business hours
- Provide pharmaceutical services after hours on-call as scheduled
Work Schedule
- Typical hours: 8 AM to 5 PM, Days
