Description

Job Opportunity: Obstetric Assistant

Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

As an integral member of the obstetrical team, you will assist staff in caring for obstetrical patients by performing delegated tasks to provide basic nursing care and support surgeons during operative procedures. This role involves floating to other departments as needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify safety needs of patients in Labor and Delivery.
  • Report breaks in sterile technique and maintain aseptic practice according to standards.
  • Assist surgical team by preparing equipment and supplies per surgeon’s preference.
  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments during procedures.
  • Anticipate surgeon’s needs to expedite procedures.
  • Obtain medications from RN as verbally ordered by the surgeon and verify orders.
  • Participate in identifying unsafe patient care practices and intervene as necessary.
  • Provide personal care assistance including bathing, dressing, eating, and transportation.
  • Maintain patient records accurately, including vital signs and treatment documentation.
  • Communicate procedure changes and pertinent information to staff and management.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work areas; manage supplies responsibly.
  • Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of a high school education or an equivalent qualification.

Additional Information

  • No call requirements.
  • Hospital scrubs provided daily.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
