Description

Job Opportunity: Pharmacist Inpatient

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM, seven shifts on / seven shifts off


Job Description

  • Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of all medication orders by evaluating drug selection, dose, frequency, safety, dosage form, allergies, drug interactions, and disease state interactions prior to dispensing.
  • Evaluate patient information including age, weight, relevant medical characteristics, and laboratory results.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age of assigned patients, with pediatric experience required.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians during the overnight shift, overseeing preparation of doses, order entry, medication delivery, inventory management, and unit inspections.
  • Escalate overnight issues to appropriate management and ensure proper handoff at shift end.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Pharmacist license in Illinois.
  • Minimum 1 year of pharmacist experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients; pediatric experience is required.
  • Experience in supervisory roles.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Pharmacist license in Illinois (or eligibility).
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency highly preferred.

Background & Health Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming fitness for duty.
  • N95 mask fit testing within 1 year of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B vaccine series or positive titer (required for renal dialysis assignments)
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
  • TB testing requirements (PPD or Quantiferon Gold) within specified timeframes.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable.
  • Color Blind Testing (14 plate Ishihara exam).
  • Unit-specific competency exams updated every 3 years.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable).
  • Core training parts I, II, and III, updated annually.
  • OSHA mandatory training, updated annually.

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required, including 1 from a direct supervisor.
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist must be submitted.
  • Facility-specific compliance and training checklists must be completed prior to orientation.
  • Badge photo with plain white background required 2 weeks prior to start.
  • Flu exemption forms must be submitted by specified deadlines if applicable.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Pediatric experience is mandatory.
  • Night shift schedule with a 7-on/7-off rotation.
